Recently Poker Star has made an announcement regarding their amendment in rules and regulations regarding restricting French players. This rule came in effect since 24th of June by the Country’s government.
A pop up that appeared for French users read in part, “All money in PokerStars accounts is 100% safe and is available for withdrawal. You can choose to cash out now if you prefer.”
But those French players who want to continue with Poker Stars now can play via PokerStars.fr. They further explained for its players that “We will be running free tournaments on PokerStars.fr this weekend to win seats to live French Poker Series events.”
You can see more update and posters on the well-liked online poker forum PocketFives.com reacted to the news in a thread entitled “Goodbye PokerStars! Signed: All French Players.”
Because of this decision taken by the government traffic on PokerStars has a drastic change. According to PokerScout.com, on June 24th, the site attracted a peak of 36,566 real money ring game players, a drop of about 10% from the 40,943 players recorded one week prior. While on June 23rd, the number of cash game players was at 37,637, down 9% from the 41,585 the previous week. Therefore its obvious that this drop off was because of French Players Ban.
According to information found on PokerStars’ site, its Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) attracted 27,316 participants from France, the fourth most of any country and about 6% of the field of 462,000. The country with the most number of participants, not surprisingly, was the United States, which contributed 147,000 players to the cause in the three-tiered tournament series.
In the start of this month, the French Authority Online Games Regulation (ARJEL) granted gaming licenses to outfits like Unibet and Everest Poker.
This decision was not only taken by Poker Stars but there are also some other rooms who did this. Paradise Poker parent company Sportingbet, Betfair, and William Hill have closed their doors to the French poker market.
