Everest Poker Sues WSOP over Tournament Sponsorship Row

Everest PokerYesterday Everest Poker, the biggest sponsor for the World Series of Poker has claimed in a Las Vegas federal court against Harrah’s Entertainment, the owner of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) brand.

Ultra Internet Media (UIM), which is the owner of Everest Poker is operating out of the island of Nevis in the West Indies, come into a deal with WSOP in 2008. They also agreed to sponsor the tournament series to the amount of $6.2 million in 2008, $7.9 million in 2009, and $8.4 in 2010.

According to contract, the Everest Poker logo should be displayed prominently on the felt of all tables used in the competition, plus on the inner rung of the WSOP feature table during the finals.

According to the proceedings, “Every material breach of the agreement represents lost potential future profits, erosion of goodwill and compromise of UIM’s international business reputation.”

The 2010 tournament kicks off on May 27 at Harrah’s Rio hotel-casino in Las Vegas, and UIM wants to pull out. So they are claiming that in last few years, Harrah’s desecrated the sponsorship agreement when ESPN broadcasts of the event shown in France failed to show the Everest Poker logo on the tables, instead replacing it with competitor Full Tilt Poker. The claim hopes to use this break to make the contract invalid.

It’s a serious objection because Ultra Internet Media and its subsidiary Everest Poker claim to generate the majority of their profits by offering online poker in France. When televise of past WSOP events play on France’s RTL9 television channel bearing Full Tilt’s logo, UIM Ultra Internet Media does not get their money’s worth. Ultra Internet Media had also claimed that they do not make revenue from players in the US “by way of the Internet or telephone.”

Poker Revenues Felt for 888

888 Holding earn almost 30% hit on poker revenues last year; therefore the online gambling operators said that it was sure beating into its well of social players and expected a return to poker growth in the second half of 2010.

888 saw a decrease of 4% to $246.7m (£164m) and pre-tax profit decline of 31% to $27.6m, while their Poker revenues fell from $71.6m to $51.6m in  2009.

Gigi Levy, chief executive of 888 Holdings, said poker is an established market, with all its rivals suffering from falling liquidity. “It’s a tough market,” he said. The shares fell 9p on Tuesday to close at 103p.

Recently 888 have built up a database of 2 million players on social networking site Facebook. The amazing part of it is that those players are not real money players but Levy was confident of converting some of those into paying customers at Pacific Poker .

Dragonfish, the group’s B2B division, saw revenues go up by a third to $51.3m and on Monday added to its client Bwin and it recently announced it would provide casino games for the Italian arm of Bwin, the Austrian-based online gambling operator.

However, Mr Levy said that Dragonfish was “moving slower than we had hoped”, with some potential clients unwilling to switch to new providers.

“Everybody is arming themselves with small acquisitions to improve their position,” he said. 888 itself bought Wink Bingo in December.

Playing Poker Online Reduces Stress

A group of Canadian researchers found some time to do other than watching Olympic hockey. They wanted to conduct a study on the effects of playing poker on stress. You will be amazed to see the results of this study. Their earlier study showed that online gambling like poker is very beneficial to the brain and presently researchers are very excited to be able to report that poker is a stress buster as well. This study consisted of many people playing a game of poker.

These researchers have found significant evidence to make the claim that playing poker online actually reduces stress. That means indirectly they have proved that if you are stressed then you should start playing poker it will reduce your stress.

This study is all about cortisol. It is a hormone that is termed as the stress hormone. If level of these hormones increases in your blood this means you are stressed. And during the players being monitored playing online poker showed decreasing levels of cortisone as they became more engaged in the game. These findings add to the previously known findings that online gambling improves cognitive function and can reduce the aging process.

This means that science is telling us that gambling and playing poker online not only makes you smarter and gives you’re a younger look. But it also reduces your stress levels.

The results of this poker study is really amazing, because according to this, playing poker can be one of the most stressful and nerve racking activities to engage in. You would think that with money on the line, and the tension involved in competition would increase stress levels, turns out that engaging oneself so deeply into the game actually relieves stress by forcing the individual to forget about the stresses of everyday life.

If Dawn were ahead by #1 or more than his opponent must fork over $500,000 and if the Dwain’s opponent were ahead by $1 or more Dwan’s would cough up $1.5million.

The WOSP set an overall turnout record with 60,875 players in 2009, with an increase of 4.5% over 2008. It was a success year for EPT that found major live poker tournament poker in 2009, also become the most consistent performer. But aside from these scandals it’s presumed that online poker world will prove themselves more efficient to attain big heights and earn huge earnings by competing online behemoths as PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker.

Real Card Deals in Online Poker

The online poker usa world is undergoing constant change. It has now been heard that real card deals are to be introduced to replace random number generators.

It is possible that many poker players will argue that the type of hands dealt and general poker statistics tend to have a different feel when playing online poker as compared to playing live poker. Although many players have argued that this is not the case, and that both produce random card distributions, there are valid arguments to suggest that there are possibilities it could be real.

For instance, in online poker cards are dealt using what is known as a pseudo-random number generator. For all intents and purposes this generates truly random deals. When cards are dealt by a live dealer, shuffling the deck does not randomize the cards. However a great deal of research has been carried out on how many times a deck needs to be perfectly shuffled in order to produce an essentially random sequence and it turned out to be approximately seven ruffle shuffles.

A brand new poker website is being launched in real cards are dealt. The system uses what is called a deck matrix system. Real decks of cards are automatically shuffled numerous times and the shuffled decks are recorded and encrypted to be used in dealing. Every hand is played using a single deck, and the player on the button can chose whether or not to cut the deck. Burn cards are also used. The deals are audited and certified, and there is no possibility of cheating or any kind of fraud. In addition to this the system makes it impossible for online poker bots to be used.

It is expected that Realpoker will commence games in February 2010, although it is already possible to sign up. This will create a major change in the online poker industry and will definitely set a benchmark for other poker sites.

Bwin Add Social Media to Online Poker

Online poker gaming softwares have long been based on the same formats which are easy to use no matter who the player. Among the most well known ones are Microgaming Poker Network and Ongame Poker Network which license their software to hundreds of different “skin” sites. These companies usually plaster their own logo and color scheme over the original client.

Austrian gaming giants Bwin have now moved from the stereotypical format. They are currently testing a new program that integrates social media into online poker. The company aims to increase connection between players. This innovation will help you share information like your most recent victory on facebook or make you challenge another player to a wager.

The product is still in the testing stage, although it has been heard that the new system seems to revolve around a Shoutbox. Unlike a typical chat area this new feature will contain a whole raft of social media options. You can make comments on specific bets and hands, as well as invite your friends to the table. These comments will be viewable by all, enabling other users to come in and interact with your behavior. These functions will intertwine with Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace. This new technology brings a new connectivity to online poker where players can create their own friends list with special alerts. More at bwin!

Bwin owns the Ongame network, which recently completed their new P5 poker platform. The new software was a solid modern poker client but not so creative.

According to the Chief Technological Officer Thomas Kiessling “It’s really the customer experience that’s key. That is a major priority for me,” he said. “Customer relationship management, customer intelligence, usability studies. That is a major priority for me.” Bwin have already sunk €45 million into the creation of this new software, which looks ready to become a core part of their already solid online offering.
