Recently a team at PokerTableRating found a security risk in Cake Poker online poker software. Over a month ago, same type of security risk was found on the Cereus network. The security risk is that any player personal account information may be easily stolen by a third party between the player and the Cake network servers.

The reason of this told by the experts is weak encryption on Cake network’s part and due to this risk it leave many negative implications. But there are a number of steps poker players can take to keep away from any mishaps from this security exploit.

The most obvious way to take any risks is to change one’s password and avoid playing at Cake Poker until this situation has been resolved. If a player must play, it is best to play on a wired network.

When a player logs-in to play poker, they are directly connected to a server on the poker client’s end. User names, passwords, and hole cards are all delivered via this connection. Therefore to make sure that no third party will hack this information, poker companies encrypt their data. The industry standard is an SSL protocol used across the world at organizations such as banks and government agencies.
